The Home of Local

The Old Farm Market is an Island-owned local market with three locations, focussed on providing our communities with high quality, low-cost produce. We believe healthy eating should be affordable and accessible to everyone, regardless of circumstance. Originating in Duncan in 1987, we now have three locations across Vancouver Island.

The Old Farm Story

The Old Farm Market first opened its doors in 1987 with a simple mission: to bring the freshest, best-priced produce to Vancouver Island. In 2017, Lorne Campbell took over the business with a renewed vision of what a truly local grocery store could be. Drawing from his family’s deep roots in the Island’s grocery tradition, Lorne set out to revive the spirit of old-school customer service, where community comes first, quality speaks for itself, and every shopper feels like a neighbour, not a number.

Today, The Old Farm Market stands as a proud local staple, offering the Island’s best selection of fresh fruits and vegetables at unbeatable prices. Each of our stores has earned top honours from their communities – most recently, our Oak Bay location was voted #1 Best Local Grocery Store! Awards aside, our true success is measured in the trust and smiles of the people we serve every day.

Our vision is built from the ground up, starting with the people who make it all happen. We believe that treating our staff like family creates the kind of genuine, open, and positive environment that customers can feel the moment they walk through our doors. From growers and suppliers to our front-line team members, everyone plays a part in delivering an incredible customer experience that’s honest, friendly, and genuine.

Each Old Farm Market location has its own heartbeat. We don’t believe in cookie-cutter stores or one-size-fits-all grocery shopping; every community we serve is unique, and we make sure each store reflects that. From the products we stock to the specials we run, our separate weekly flyers are tailored to meet the tastes and needs of our local customers. We’re proud to give back through community-focused charity events and local partnerships that strengthen the towns we call home.

Sourcing Local Produce

Kyle Penny • Produce Buyer

These are challenging times for many families, with economic uncertainty and changing trade relationships affecting how and where food is sourced. At The Old Farm Market, our buying philosophy is the same as it’s always been: local first whenever possible. We prioritize Island-grown products first, followed by produce and grocery goods from elsewhere in British Columbia and Canada. When Canadian options aren’t available, we make every effort to source from other international growing regions before turning to the United States.

That said, produce is seasonal, and there are times when certain fruits and vegetables are only practically available from U.S. growers. In those cases, we’ll continue to bring them in rather than leave our customers without affordable access to the foods they rely on. Our priority has always been making fresh, quality food accessible at a fair price. We work hard to find the best products at the best possible cost and pass those deals along to our customers, while supporting local and Canadian growers whenever the season and supply allow.

We’ve had a fantastic local growing season this year with an abundance of Island grown produce from farms and greenhouses like Michell’s, Galey’s, Hilltop, Echo Valley, Gobind, and so many more. Local produce likes to hang on through September and into early October before temperatures cool and we start looking elsewhere for certain produce. As winter approaches, we will continue bringing in any available Island/BC produce. Check out “What’s in Season” section below for updated local availability.

Best of the City 2026

Chris Steel • General Manager

We’re very excited to announce that our Oak Bay location has won 1st place for Best Local Grocery Store in this year’s Best of the City Awards put on by Victoria News & the Black Press team. In addition to that, we won #2 Best Produce Store, and #3 Best Sandwich/Sub. We’d like to extend out heartfelt thanks to our customers and community for voting for us. We don’t do it for the awards, but it’s nice to be recognized! We’re thrilled to be part of such an incredible community, and it’s the support of our customers, neighbours, and friends, that we are able to bring the best produce at the lowest prices!
